Clinical New Zealand hand Windies second loss

New Zealand Women picked up their fifth win of the ICC Women's Championship as they trounced Windies Women by eight wickets at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln on Thursday (March 8). With the win, New Zealand also picked up a 2-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the first game by one run.

Set 195 to win, Sophie Devine scored 80 while Suzie Bates blasted 101 off 86 to ease the team to a win inside 31 overs. Devine and Bates scored 175 for the first wicket to shut the door on the visitors after a clinical show from the bowlers. Though Devine was dismissed towards the end, Bates remained unbeaten to complete her ninth ODI ton.

Earlier, asked to bat first, Windies posted 194 all out on the back of Stafanie Taylor's 86. Chedean Nation scored 35 but with no other significant score coming and with no substantial partnerships flourishing, Windies could only manage a paltry score.

Reduced to 41 for 2, Taylor and Nation carried the team to 95 in the 25th over before the latter was dismissed. That opened the floodgates as no other batter could settle in. Taylor saw partners come and go as she waged a lone battle against a mighty opponent.

Leigh Kasperek picked up four wickets while Lea Tahuhu ended with three before Devine and Bates capped off an exceptional day on the field.
