India pacer Mohammed Shami has refuted allegations of domestic violence and infidelity made against him by his wife, terming them 'baseless'. The startling claims made by Shami's wife - Hasin Jahan - played a role in BCCI withholding the fast bowler's name from the central contracts list that was released on Wednesday (March 7).
Shami also questioned the timing of the allegations going public, and why it hadn't come out anytime in the last five years - during which his wife accused him of allegedly torturing her mentally.
"All these accusations made against me are baseless. They have no meaning," Shami told ANI. "She said that this has been happening since five years, the fact is that we have been married just for four years. And why has the accusation come only now and not during the last five years. Why did it take time? So this I think is a planned ploy."
"Even after my wife was trolled so much in the past I stood by her. And I would like to stand by her today as well," he added.
It remains unclear if this recent development will also impact his chances of playing in the upcoming Indian Premier League for Delhi Daredevils.
